Friday Fix and a News Mix

Big changes happen one step at a time. To help you take steps towards a more environmentally enlightened life, every Friday I'll feature a quick fix that helps you upgrade a small aspect of your life. I'm not paid to use any of these products, and yes - I really do use them in my everyday life!

Another Friday, and there's a lot going on in the world! We'll get to it all, but first I want to give you this Friday's Fix - we're talking plastic wrap!

Yes, plastic wrap - those clingy sheets of plastic that somehow seem to always end up clinging to everything except the dish they're intended for. Who needs it anyways? Especially once you know that it can't be recycled, and will probably end up polluting the ocean as a microplastic. Gross.

Instead of Saran Wrap, reach for beeswax wraps! Made from thin sheets of fabric coated in bees or vegetable wax, these wraps serve all the same purposes of plastic wrap, but you never have to throw them out. They're very flexible and mold around the rim of a container with just the heat of your hands. And when you're done using them, just wash with warm, soapy water and dry before reusing. I've used my Beeswrap for a few years now, and just purchased a set of Khala Cloths. Both varieties work wonderfully!

On to the news - there have been a lot of big headlines recently, and they're worth five minutes of your time to read about. In addition, I've thrown in a few things that I've been reading/using/shopping for recently.

In the category of 'great news for the week': Maine and Vermont, MVPs.

There is a 110% chance I'm making these this weekend.

Fast fashion makes an effort - something is better than nothing, guys.

Just when California is out of a decades-long drought and you think the coast is clear.

Then again, California is always ready to try the next big idea. Gotta love it.

Microplastics aren't the only thing that marine life is eating. Ugh.

Don't let up, people - the change is still needed, and desperately.
